AN INTRODUCTION TO LEARNING TO DRIVE
No matter at what age you are learning to drive the process can at times be fun, stressful, exciting, scary and everything in between. It’s important to remember that different people learn at different rates and there are bound to be some parts of learning to drive that you find easier than others.
I am an independent, fully qualified Grade A Approved Driving Instructor based in Kingsteignton, Devon. I provide learner driver training, qualified driver training, am a Pass Plus registered instructor and am trained to teach people with various physical and learning disabilities. I provide automatic lessons in an adpated petrol Honda Jazz.
I pride myself on a friendly and reliable service and will tailor lessons to the customer. Everyone is an individual and I believe that their experience of learning to drive should be fun, interesting and unique. I specialise in teaching those with disabilities and nervous drivers. I will structure a learning programme unique to you and we work at your pace and work together to build your progress week on week. I use the National Standards for driving as the basis and use these to ensure you are fully prepared not just to pass your test but for a lifetime of driving.
I offer free of charge theory test practice through Theory Test Pro to all my customers – just ask for more details.
I cover Ashburton, Bovey Tracey, Chudleigh, Kingskerswell, Kingsteignton and Newton Abbot. If you need to drive with adaptations and live outside of these areas I may still be able to help, please contact me to discuss. I am also a member of the Driving Instructors Association and abide by their code of conduct.
I have experience of working with people with a variety of learning and physical disabilities and understand the implications this can have on learning to drive. I am also trained to provide tuition in hi-tech adapted vehicles for those with more specialist needs.
Why not check out the rest of my website or give me a call or email for more information – if I don’t answer I’m probably on a lesson so leave me a message and I’ll call you back as soon as I can. I am happy to meet face to face with no obligation to further discuss your requirements. You can find reviews for me on Facebook and Google (search for Drive with Emma).
RECENT TEST PASSES
TOWING CHANGES (DECEMBER 2021)
4th January 2022
The laws around towing changed last month, you can find out more about those changes here. If you are a provisional licence holder then nothing has changed, if you hold a full UK licence, how much you can tow depends on when you passed your driving test. It's recommended that anyone towing for the first time undertakes some professional training to ensure you can tow safely. This is not something I can help with, but there are specialist towing driving instructors.
OMICRON VARIANT OF COVID-19
1st December 2021
Now that the Omicron variant is spreading in the UK, the government have introduced some new laws and driving instructors have been issued new guidance.
It is now a legal requirement to wear a face covering in the car on driving lessons and driving tests unless you are medically exempt.
I will now be taking a lateral flow test every day that I am conducting lessons and ask that you take a test before attending for lessons and tests.
You can find out more here or ask me if you have any questions.
Thanks for your co-operation.
HIGHWAY CODE CHANGES COMING IN 2022
22nd November 2021
The Highway Code is being updated to reflect active travel, modern driving and mostly importantly it will introduce a hierarchy of road users - those who can do the greatest harm, have the greatest responsibility. I will be regularly updating my blog as changes are introduced.
